Action.

There are two different types:

➢ external action:

It takes place in the physical world of the setting

➢ internal action:

it takes place in the mind of (one of)

the characters

Exercise:

1) Take the scene of Sheila approaching Dan Whittle at the party:

a) Briefly relate the external action: What does Sheila do to get to know Dan?

b) Briefly relate the internal action: What goes on in Sheila's mind?

2) Which parts of the Greene text make up external action? Which ones are internal action? Explain.
